Nizhny Novgorod State University, also known as Lobachevsky State University is the most important Higher Education institution in Nizhny Novgorod. Founded in 1916, it was known as the Gorki State University, the same name that the town bore until 1990. It is made up of 19 faculties and 6 research institutes, being a national benchmark in the field of science. According to a ranking prepared by the prestigious QS index in 2014, it ranks 74th out of 200 among the BRICS. This is a trade political association made up of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, the so-called emerging economies.

The international scope of the UNN
The UNN, as traditionally abbreviated to the Nizhny Novgorod State University, currently has more than 30,000 students from at least 97 countries. Like the vast majority of Russian institutions, it has an excellent multicultural system, ideal for the integration of students from all over the world. More than 1000 people have been trained in the best European universities thanks to the implementation of 21 Tempus Projects. Similarly, the government of the Russian Federation has supported 7 scientific innovation projects developed in the institution with the creation of world-class laboratories. Regarding the teaching staff, they have more than 400 available professors and at least 1000 doctoral students.
